Review For Movie Oblivion
Feels ever more grounded and stuck ...
Anthony Lane-New Yorker

Was Cruise trying to beat out fellow Scientologist John Travolta for the honor of starring in the dumbest sci-fi epic ever?
David Edelstein-Vulture

If nothing else, "Oblivion" will go down in film history as the movie where Tom Cruise pilots a white, sperm-shaped craft into a giant space uterus.
Ignatiy Vishnevetsky-Chicago Sun-Times

This is the sci-fi movie equivalent of a pretty damn good cover band.
Richard Roeper-Richard Roeper.com

Glossy, derivative, ambitious and fatally underpowered.
Tom Charity-CNN.com

The story eventually devolves into a grab bag of sci-fi tropes but, as with so many other Cruise productions, the sheer scale of everything is so mind-numbing that you may not notice.
J. R. Jones-Chicago Reader

Kosinski's totality of vision may not look or feel entirely original but is striking and memorable all the same.
Michael Dequina-TheMovieReport.com

Are we really seeing a movie called "Oblivion" at all? Or is it merely a succession of concepts pulled from the likes of "Blade Runner," "Planet of the Apes," "Total Recall" and even the director's own "Tron: Legacy?"
David Keyes-Cinemaphile.org

Joseph Kosinski's Oblivion is far from original and instead acts as yet another genre rip-off that looks shiny and expensive, but is hollow and lifeless where it counts
Jeremy Lebens-We Got This Covered

Oblivion is a deliberate and beautifully crafted picture that embraces genre trappings without sacrificing the emotional heft of pure drama.
Forrest Hartman-Reno Gazette-Journal

...beautifully designed but derivative science fiction that suffers more than it benefits from Tom Cruise's turbo-charged energy.
Chris Barsanti-PopMatters

Amazing computer-generated imagery and a few nifty action beats, but suffers from a lack of human connection.
Eric D. Snider-EricDSnider.com

This visually beautiful film falters with a meandering plot.
John Hanlon-Big Hollywood

Paying lip service to sci-fi tropes, this hapless futuristic romp pilfers liberally without adding any depth.
Wesley Lovell-Cinema Sight

In the third act, motives and loyalties get twisted around so frequently that it becomes difficult to keep track of what anyone is fighting for in the first place.
Todd Jorgenson-Cinemalogue.com

That it can't match the classics it takes as inspiration shouldn't be used to condemn it too harshly.
Martin Roberts-Fan The Fire

A derivative sci-fi drama that blends some nifty plot twists with its mysteriously serene futuristic adventure.
Bruce Bennett-Spectrum (St. George, Utah)

A classic case of concept being better than execution.
John Serba-MLive.com

An intriguing look lacks a plot to match
Robert Denerstein-Movie Habit

Oblivion is too somber to cater in escapist thrills and too vacuous to offer emotional or intellectual engagement.
Curtis Woloschuk-Willamette Week

It's exactly the sort of cheesy, awkward sci-fi junk Cruise's savior L. Ron Hubbard used to crank out before he ventured into the lucrative field of cult religion.
Al Alexander-The Patriot Ledger

The action sequences are well-constructed, but forced: They're concessions to the marketplace, and they interfere with the movie's true interest in the routine rather than the extremes of postapocalyptic survival.
John Beifuss-Commercial Appeal (Memphis, TN)

Large-scale, original sci-fi is a hard thing to come by these days, and despite its familiar story Oblivion does dream up some great ideas
Katey Rich-CinemaBlend.com

An admirable failure; an overlong, awkwardly paced mishmash of cool but familiar ideas and all-too predictable plot-twists.
Tom Clift-Moviedex

really no more derivative a science fiction thriller than most these days, it just has the unfortunate tendency of seeming to be more obvious about it
James Kendrick-Q Network Film Desk

Unfortunately, when the story seems like an afterthought and the audience can't follow the plot progression, the movie ultimately fails
Matt Kelemen-AspectRatio.us

Review For Movie The Monk
A work whose elegant atmospherics ultimately overwhelm the story, even with the terrific Vincent Cassel in the title role.
Sheri Linden-Los Angeles Times

What repulsed Coleridge in the novel clearly amuses the French director Dominik Moll in his diverting if somewhat thin adaptation.
Manohla Dargis-New York Times

By the end, "The Monk" has revealed itself to be a too- predictable potboiler, served piping hot.
Soren Anderson-Seattle Times

If only director Dominik Moll (who has clearly studied his Luis Buñuel) had not staged this bitter psychological horror story at half speed.
Colin Covert-Minneapolis Star Tribune

A beautiful-looking film that portends disaster. And disaster arrives, eventually. It just takes its time getting there.
Bill Goodykoontz-Arizona Republic

Not bad for a robe-ripper along the lines of The Thorn Birds, but Diary of a Country Priest it ain't.
J. R. Jones-Chicago Reader

This is a fascinating character study about spirituality and religious responsibility that smartly doesn't take its more melodramatic elements very seriously.
Todd Jorgenson-Cinemalogue.com

I confess: I fast-forwarded through most of it.
Staci Layne Wilson-Yahoo! Movies

Dominik Moll never addresses Matthew Gregory Lewis's original groundbreaking ideas in The Monk, nor does he rework the material for a contemporary audience.
Tina Hassannia-Slant Magazine

Not to be mistaken for a serious treatment of religious fervor or clerical corruption, "The Monk" is instead a knowingly over-the-top bit of gothic nuttiness.
Marc Mohan-Oregonian

It's garish and crazy (and in French), so it's probably not for everyone. But I can't imagine anyone getting bored.
Chris Hewitt (St. Paul)-St. Paul Pioneer Press

Moll's careful direction ensures a balance of the supernatural and the temporal - Ambrosio could either be seen as a victim of demonic forces within his own monastery or the sole architect of his moral downfall.
Mary Clare Waireri-Fan The Fire

Vincent Cassel does his utmost to make his character intense and compelling, but negligible character development means he fails to hold our interest.
Christopher Tookey-Daily Mail [UK]

All talk, no action, The Monk looks good but is weighed down by the Catholic guilt it's trying to critique.
-Film4

Studded with lovely painterly images, but ends up feeling cramped and stagey.
Andrew Osmond-SFX Magazine

The movie broods like nobody's business, setting us up for a temptingly black slab of cassocks-off ecclesiastical depravity.
Tim Robey-Daily Telegraph

Get Caesar Must Die Free Online Movies

Winner of the Golden Bear at the Berlinale, Paolo and Vittorio Taviani's Caesar Must Die deftly melds narrative and documentary in a transcendently powerful drama-within-a-drama. The film was made in Rome's Rebibbia Prison, where the inmates are preparing to stage Shakespeare's Julius Caesar. After a competitive casting process, the roles are eventually allocated, and the prisoners begin exploring the text, finding in its tale of fraternity, power and betrayal parallels to their own lives and stories. Hardened criminals, many with links to organised crime, these actors find great motivation in performing the play. As we witness the rehearsals, beautifully photographed in various nooks and crannies within the prison, we see the inmates also work through their own conflicts, both internal and between each other. -- (C) Adopt

Review For Movie Caesar Must Die
It is almost an impertinence to think that we understand the thoughts of these actors and those in the audience who are relatives and friends. But this is the intriguing privilege that the Taviani brothers have given us.
Stanley Kauffmann-The New Republic

A film somewhere between documentary and neo-realist drama.
Colin Covert-Minneapolis Star Tribune

There's barely a wasted moment in the film, which runs a brisk 76 minutes and contains no female roles.
Peter Howell-Toronto Star

There's an intensity and emotional accuracy to the performances that's just stunning, particularly Striano's Brutus, as he longs for death and release.
Tom Long-Detroit News

It's an arresting, playful and moving film ...
Dave Calhoun-Time Out

Prison theatricals are nothing new in the movies, but Caesar Must Die, a quasi-documentary featuring hardened convicts acting out Shakespeare's Julius Caesar, is in a class by itself.
Peter Rainer-Christian Science Monitor

A clever if sometimes mystifying, combination of documentary, invention and post-modernism.
Jay Stone-Canada.com

Destined to lose years in prison, the actors seem to take pride -- and solace -- in their association with something as seemingly immortal as Shakespeare's words.
John Beifuss-Commercial Appeal (Memphis, TN)

As they find issues and themes they can relate to, the action is never remotely static despite the frequent nature of the close-ups and the plastic sword.
Graham Young-Birmingham Post

The problem with the film, which somewhat inexplicably won the Golden Bear at Berlin last year, is that it scarcely transcends the basic novelty of its premise.
A.A. Dowd-Time Out Chicago

Profoundly moving.
Philip French-Observer [UK]

The juxtaposition of Shakespearean text and prison cell life is a particularly poignant one.
Tara Brady-Irish Times

It is difficult to understand exactly where documentary ends and fiction begins, but the finale, again in colour, of the triumphant first night of the production can't fail to move.
Derek Malcolm-This is London

It's never anything less than interesting, though I felt it didn't quite fulfil its potential, and the repetition of material at the beginning and end is disconcerting.
Peter Bradshaw-Guardian [UK]

It is uncanny how Italy's film-makers keep failing to nail, or effectively to satirise, their country's strident political shortcomings.
Nigel Andrews-Financial Times

Deeply felt melancholy lingers long after the credits roll.
Glenn Heath Jr.-Little White Lies

Delivers a compelling and considered take on immemorial themes.
Chris Buckle-The Skinny

[It] has plenty of wit and punch, although compared to the best of the medium - Man On Wire, for instance - it sometimes comes off as guileless and clunky.
Patrick Peters-Empire Magazine

Tina Fey (30 Rock) and Paul Rudd (This is 40) are paired for the first time on-screen in Admission, the new comedy/drama directed by Academy Award nominee Paul Weitz (About a Boy, In Good Company), about the surprising detours we encounter on the road to happiness. Every spring, high school seniors anxiously await letters of college admission that will affirm and encourage their potential. At Princeton University, admissions officer Portia Nathan (Tina Fey) is a gatekeeper evaluating thousands of applicants. Year in and year out, Portia has lived her life by the book, at work as well as at the home she shares with Princeton professor Mark (Michael Sheen). When Clarence (Wallace Shawn), the Dean of Admissions, announces his impending retirement, the likeliest candidates to succeed him are Portia and her office rival Corinne (Gloria Reuben). For Portia, however, it's business as usual as she hits the road on her annual recruiting trip. (c) Focus

Review For Movie Admission
The many strands of this amiable yet overstuffed romantic comedy don't hang together, though each, on its own, has a modest charm.
Richard Brody-New Yorker

What is most distressing about Admission is that it serves as further evidence that Tina Fey, despite her dominance of the small screen, has not yet mastered the big one.
Christopher Orr-The Atlantic

This is certainly an interesting idea, though the movie is badly handicapped by Fey, who must venture beyond her usual snippiness into scenes of genuine poignancy and proves unequal to the task.
J. R. Jones-Chicago Reader

Granted, this is not automatic laugh-riot material, nor should it be, but didn't Fey recognize how hackneyed it all is?
Peter Rainer-Christian Science Monitor

If Fey ends up making movies as good as this one over the next few years, television's loss will have been cinema's gain, for real.
Glenn Kenny-MSN Movies

You'll be glad you enrolled.
Stephen Whitty-Newark Star-Ledger

What's a romantic comedy to do when it is neither romantic nor comedic? When that film is Admission, it plunges forward drunkenly, hoping to overcome its inadequacies with goodwill created by the cast.
Forrest Hartman-Reno Gazette-Journal

Overstays its welcome before petering out unremarkably.
Eric D. Snider-EricDSnider.com

An engaging cast holds our interest even when this rom-com meanders down unnecessary sideroads and dips into corny sentimentality.
Rich Cline-Shadows on the Wall

Princeton must have thought this film could help its reputation. It's more likely to increase applications to Yale, Harvard and MIT.
Philip French-Observer [UK]

Given two options, Admission routinely takes the less interesting of the two, and wastes a great deal of on-screen talent in the process.
Joe Cunningham-HeyUGuys

Have you ever wondered how the admission procedure functions in Ivy League universities? No, me neither.
Donald Clarke-Irish Times

There are chuckles and moving moments, just not enough of them.
David Aldridge-Radio Times

Intermittently sharp but often dully over-extended.
Derek Malcolm-This is London

We generally expect more wacky humour from Fey and Rudd than this comedy, which is packed with perhaps too-smart dialog and a lot of warm sentiment.
Rich Cline-Contactmusic.com

Romantic and family complications ensue but nothing especially memorable or purposeful. Or funny.
Henry Fitzherbert-Daily Express

It is ... perilously short on laughs, and the few that do come are generated by Lily Tomlin as the heroine's ferociously feminist mother.
Christopher Tookey-Daily Mail [UK]

Admission wants to win a place in our hearts, but after 108 minutes of relatively hard labour the majority of viewers probably won't let it in.
Graham Young-Birmingham Mail

The comic material really isn't there, and the plot transitions feel forced and uncomfortable ...
Peter Bradshaw-Guardian [UK]

The movie subverts expectations, and not in a good way, by seeming in a dither about its own identity.
Tim Robey-Daily Telegraph

This is comedy with zero pulse.
David Jenkins-Little White Lies

The tone is uneven, the central romance is unconvincing and it's disappointingly low on actual laughs.
Matthew Turner-ViewLondon

The themes are important, even if in this Hollywood laundering they are sloshed about in love suds and clattered by uneven comedy spins.
Nigel Andrews-Financial Times

A perfectly serviceable, star-led romance, Admission is also proof that some actors are just fun to watch in anything (which here extends to the supporting cast as well as the leads).
Rob Daniel-Sky Movies

The staggeringly unconvincing dynamic between the central characters not only leaves Fey and Rudd helpless, it ensures the whole movie is effectively rudderless.
Ben Rawson-Jones-Digital Spy

Admission is disappointing rather than disastrous but it's desperately lacking in spark and individuality.
Emma Simmonds-The List
